I'm not trying to be a Negative Nancy or poo poo on bike riders. I understand that some people live off campus and need to bike, and that some people in the dorms feel the need to bike the 5 minutes to class, for whatever reason. But, there are roads! It's not even an issue when the sidewalks aren't overflowed with people; you want to ride on the sidewalk then, go ahead. But, WHY do people insist on riding on the sidewalk and consequently running into people at times when there is obviously no room for them?
I am just a little curious for the overwhelming need for the bikes in the first place. I mean, again I realize some people are off campus ...but as far as living in the dorms, I don't get it. I walked from lovely Lafollete all the way to West Quad every Tuesday and Thursday last year, and I didn't die. It is possible to walk.

I have been a victim and a witness to innocent pedestrians having their feet run over or being hit by people on bikes. One day, a girl was walking on the sidewalk down McKinley, minding her own business and turned to walk into the Atrium. At the exact same time, a dude on a bike decided to go flying past her on the left side. BAM. The girl was roadkill. And she had the right of way, because it's a sideWALK, not a sideRIDE.
Just saying.
All I'm asking is that bikers use some common sense and ride on the road when the sidewalks are packed between classes. My foot, and that roadkill girl would very much appreciate it.
