Proposition 19 has been gaining a lot of notoriety recently. As the bill that would go into effect in California to legalize and tax marijuana sales, it has the potential to change the nation. This would be a huge step for the state and the nation. That said, the problem of the federal government stepping in to prosecute those that utilize the legality of the bill to its fullest extent.
I happen to be a supporter of Proposition 19 and hope that it does pass. That will change how the rest of the nation sees those of us that it will hypothetically protect and, through responsibility, could show that we are not all degenerates and scum bags. Just think about the overcrowding in the jails, the over-the-top police raids, and the general miseducation and misunderstanding of marijuana.
Prop 19, should it pass, can show how it can also help the economy. The revenues that it will bring to the state of California should show the rest of the nation the benefits of taxing it and sanctioning it. Interestingly, one of my other vices does not support Prop 19. That vice is much more dangerous and serious when consumed in large quantities. Alcohol lobbyists happen to be some of the biggest opponents of Prop 19.
Will Cali vote yes on Prop 19? For the sake of the benefits, I hope so.
